MODEL A FORDS, APPLES AND BBQ!

We LOVE our Model A Fords!

If you’re up early on a Sunday morning during a tour, this is what you’ll see:

Since Placerville, CA, is our headquarters for a couple of days, we spent 2 or 3 hours enjoying Apple Hill. Here are some of our A’s at Larson’s Apple Farm.

People really enjoyed themselves at the various Apple Hill farms.

More views around Apple Hill:

Then we took the short drive… 4_6978 smallback to see Coloma, where James Marshall discovered gold in 1848 at John Sutter’s Sawmill, and the California Gold Rush started.

John Sutter’s Sawmill was located on the South Fork of the American River.  The current Sutter’s Mill is a replica of the original building. It was built based on Marshall’s own drawings and an early day photo of the mill.

The Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is a registered California historical site, and there’s quite a museum here.

Next, a highlight!  Whenever we tour, we try to meet up with local Model A clubs, and the one in Placerville is called the Hangtown A’s. BBQ_6102 small

Today we had a BBQ with them at Marshall State Park.  What could be better?  Cars and food with old friends (some of whom we’ve toured with internationally in the past.)

After the BBQ, our group had free time, so here are miscellaneous views around the Placerville area. First, the small town of Rescue where a dear friend used to work in the fire department. The current fire crew remembered Bill.  🙂

And more views in this quaint countryside:
