Day 16 (October 15, 2021): Kanab, Utah, to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona; approximately 79 miles.
Wow! This is the final day of the tour already. How did we manage to pack so much fun into just 16 days? It’s mainly thanks to Marcus and Mary, who organized everything with a fine eye to details.
Today’s drive was an easy and pleasant one, although gas stations were scarce so we had to plan our fueling stops well. The weather was gorgeous as we headed back into Arizona and arrived at the Grand Canyon.
We spent most of the afternoon driving around the park from overlook to overlook. So beautiful, but the photos don’t really show just HOW beautiful:
At the end of the day, we all gathered in the main lodge to view the sunset, followed by dinner:
And a final meeting in a very dark lounge. In addition to the “standard” presentations, Karen Bockman presented a very special quilt she had made:
The morning after…
Most of us rose early for a quick view of the sunrise, some coffee and light breakfast before heading home.
Yes, there’s always one last repair to make…
Thank you to our tour leaders, Marcus and Mary, to Tim the trouble trailer driver, and to the many mechanics who shared their tools, spare parts and expertise. Here’s hoping to see many of our participants again — down the road!

Pat, You have done a wonderful job putting this blog together every day. I’ve so enjoyed viewing it and seeing pictures from others in our group. There was so much to see that one couldn’t see it all But with your help, time and effort we were able to see much more of the sights on the Ole Southwest Tour. Thanks again John Hulstrom

Thank you so much for letting us “ride“ with you and see so many places we had seen before, but without having to use any gas this time. Look forward to printing this last episode, but will have to wait until we get power back here on the Cape. ❤️❤️
