Day 5 (October 4, 2021): Albuquerque, NM, to Alamosa, CO, approx. 215 mi.
This was NOT a good day for the mechanics or for the tow truck driver! The morning started with one vehicle requiring a water pump replacement. Tim had just begun the day’s drive when he was called back to the hotel. Fortunately, Tim had Jay’s tools and spare parts with him, and there were mechanics still at the hotel.
Unfortunately, Military Maxi broke down before the first repair was complete. (Possibly something in the transmission.) After completing his first assignment, Tim towed Jay to pick up a rental car and deposit Maxi at my cousin’s house for the duration of the tour.
A third vehicle limped into the Alamosa hotel and will probably require additional repairs in the morning.
On a tour like this with cars made in 1929 through 1931, we depend upon a plethora of experts in the club:

The rest of us continued the day’s route, which was largely along a national scenic highway in New Mexico called “The Turquoise Trail.” Two anticipated national monuments along the route were closed, but members found sights to view along the way.
Cindi Krill shared photos from along the road, including a shot of “Camel Rock”
She also documented club visitors to Santa Fe, NM.

The Hulstroms found a fun and historic lunch place:

Then Pat, Terri, Rose and Stu also recorded a few sights along the route:

Tomorrow we’ll be heading north and we should catch our first view of the Rockies. Can’t wait!
Sorry to hear about Maxi. These sights look familiar. Great pics and log. M J

Thank you so much for the great photos and detailed encounters. Wish we could be there, but we have no access to ‘ancient’ vehicles as we did previously. Hope you have good weather and healthier vehicles! Bill & I, @4:30 EST, enjoyed a lovely hour on the beach near Woods He. Calm, cool, blue ocean. Ahhhhhhh…. ❤️❤️😊😊
