Exploring British Columbia with Model A’s: Adventures, Group Gatherings, and Roadside Fun

Last night the US-Canada tour Model A’s rolled into the small town of 100 Mile House. It was the 3rd night in British Columbia so far. The days in BC had been eventful after spending time in the picturesque towns of Radiant Hot Springs and Salmon Arm. After 9 days on the road, it is clear that the group of energetic Baby Boomers love Model A travel adventures. These shared experiences form lasting friendships. Many of the tour participants had traveled together on prior tours. Others were new and meeting each other for the first time. By now everyone in the group knows each other and shares a handful of matching memories. Some fun. Others not so fun.

Breakdowns

Sometimes the adventure is under the hood. The roadster you see here had issues that required the rescue trailer. It was towed to the hotel where the group found a solution. The problem? Blown head gasket.

All is not lost when breakdowns happen. The car remained secure on the rescue trailer while the gang enjoyed lunch at historic Hat Creek Ranch.

Group Activities

Model A Touring Club tours include an assortment of group get-togethers. Some are pre-planned. Others are impromptu. The US-Canada tour is no exception. The group enjoyed each other’s company while eating, visiting local sites, and celebrating life events. Here are a few that have been experienced so far.

Fun on the Road

Of course, the reason we are on this adventure is to enjoy the sights while enjoying the ride. This includes shocking the locals with the look of our cars. While traveling from Radiant Hot Springs to Salmon Arm, we were told that we must stop for gas in Golden. This gas stop was necessary because there were no gas stations between Golden and Revelstoke. Gas tanks in Model A’s are smaller than modern cars, so filling the A’s to full is quite important. Here we are in Golden filling the gas station with our cars. It was a Saturday morning and there were plenty of locals in the area who were delighted to see the unique site of ~95 year old cars at every gas pump in the station.

This road side rest stop gave us a chance to stretch our legs and enjoy the beauty of the Canadian Rockies while driving to Revelstoke. It had been a rainy morning and the rain let up as we enjoyed the break.
