Exploring History in a Model A

You might wonder why folks like us enjoy traveling long distances in a Model A. For me, I love the connection to the past. Our red Model A coupe was brand new in 1929, a challenging time in history and the start of the Great Depression. Often while traveling along old roads I imagine life back then. This was especially true on Wednesday when our tour brought us along highway 26 east. This scenic road was once heavily traveled. Now it is so remote that there was very little traffic except for locals, logging trucks and road maintenance vehicles. It offered plenty of twists, turns, and hills. Here is a video showing this picture-perfect road as 3 Model A’s travel the 110 miles from Quesnel to Barkerville.

Our destination was the gold rush town of Barkerville, founded in 1862. Here we gathered for a special tour of the town.

Our living-history guide did an amazing job as she played the part of a citizen of Barkerville from the 1860’s.

The talented guide choose Bob to help her down the stairs as any gentleman of the time would

Next we go to our last stop in British Columbia: McBride.
