Exploring Jasper and Banff: A Model A Adventure

We are on the final days of the Model A Touring Club’s US-Canada tour. The last 4 days have been extraordinary thanks to the breathtaking beauty of British Columbia and Alberta. We exited British Columbia Thursday and entered into the amazing Jasper National Park in the Canadian Province of Alberta where we spent two nights. The next morning we checked out of our Jasper hotel and headed to Banff National Park’s Lake Louise where we spent another 2 nights.

National parks and Model A’s go together like peanut butter and jelly. Nothing looks better with a mountain backdrop than a Model A. Although Model A’s and mountain roads get along great, sometimes there are problems. Any car that has reached the status of nonagenarian can have issues here and there. Some problems are fixable. Others are not. There are some good breakdown stories to tell. I’ll get to that in a future post. For now, I want to share with you scenes of nature and Model A’s.

McBride to Jasper

Our drive from McBride to Jasper was beautiful as we traveled 104 miles along highway 16 and entered into Alberta and Jasper. The GoPro camera was mounted to either the front windshield, or back window to capture the beauty. Our traveling companions Ryck and Linda and their Model A complete the scene.

The beauty of Jasper

For our 2nd day in Jasper we did some sightseeing. You may have heard that Jasper had a devastating forest fire this summer. The next video shows a bit of the damaging fire. We were told by locals that the fire burned for 6 weeks and will take 6 years to recover.

Our Jasper hotel was lovely and had a great view. When we woke up, we enjoyed a sunrise and discovery of more snow on the mountain. The picture was taken outside of your hotel.

Jasper to Lake Louise

Saturday the tour left Jasper in route to Lake Louise. We took highway 93 North, also known as the world famous Icelands Parkway. This video shows tour members and their Model A’s enjoying the glaciers along the way.

Our group of 2 Model A’s found fellow tour-members at this Glacier look out stop.
