The Model A Touring club is pleased to announce our Fall 2018 tour to South Dakota and the Black Hills September 4th to the 16th. This two week Model A tour will cover approximately 1340 miles of driving along the rugged landscape of South Dakota. Spearfish, SD is both the starting and ending point of this round trip journey. Stops include Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, Sturgis, Deadwood, and many other exciting destinations perfect for Model A driving. The longest single day distance will be 222 miles. Tour leaders are Larry Snuttjer and Glyndon Knutson.

Tuesday, September 4
Arrive at Holiday Inn Convention Center, Spearfish, SD. Registration and Evening Buffet
Thursday, September 6
Leave Spearfish traveling to Hill City, SD thru Sturgis (Motorcycle Museum Here) thru Boulder Canyon on our way to Historic Deadwood. Deadwood was built on a rowdy history of gold, gambling and gunpowder. Deadwood is noted for its’ casinos, saloons, restaurants, retails shops, and is home to such characters as Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, and Poker Alice. The Chamber in Deadwood is arranging a walking Poker run with a prize for the winner.
Friday, September 7
Leave Hill City, SD and travel to Mt. Rushmore. The rest of the day is on your own to explore Reptile Gardens, Bear Country , many other attractions. You may want to return to Mt. Rushmore for the Patriotic Lighting Ceremony at Sunset.
Saturday, September 8
Leave Hill City, SD and travel thru the very scenic Needles Hwy on
our way to Crazy Horse Memorial. The rest of the day is on your own.
Sunday, September 9
Leave Hill City and travel to Hot Springs, SD, thru Custer State Park, driving the Wildlife Loop. Optional tour to Jewel Cave or Wind Cave, the Mammoth Site, which is an active excavation site, boasting the largest concentration of mammoth remains, dive into Evan’s Plunge (world’s largest natural mineral water swim and water park), or visit the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, home to about 750 Mustangs.
Monday, September 10
Leave Hot Springs traveling to Winner, SD, thru many Indian Reservations.
Tuesday September 11
Leave Winner and Travel to Vermillion, SD thru Pickstown, SD over Ft. Randall Dam, thru Yankton, SD to the Visitor Center overlooking the Missouri River. We’ll visit the Fish Hatchery and Aquarium before moving on the Vermillion, SD.
Wednesday, September 12
We will visit the National Music Museum in Vermillion this morning. One of the largest and most important collections of historical instruments in the world. Fabulous!!
Then on to Sioux Falls, SD. After checking in at the motel, we will go to Falls Park for a picnic supper.
Thursday, September 13
Leave Sioux Falls and travel to Watertown, SD, for a tour of the Terry Redlin Art Center with over 150 Original Oil Paintings on display. Terry Redlin captures on canvas romantic images of nature and small town America. Lunch will be provided.
Friday, September 14
Leave Watertown in route to Mitchell, SD to visit the Famous Corn Palace where about 275,000 colorful ears of corn are carefully sliced and nailed onto murals that adorn the building. It’s all done by hand. Then, onto the Hansen Wheel and Wagon Shop where craftsmen make stagecoaches, chuckwagons , hitch wagons, covered wagons, wheels.
Saturday, September 15
Travel to Wall, SD and visit the famous Wall Drug. You can go thru the Badlands National Park on this day or do it the next day before returning to Spearfish, SD. The Badlands National Park is 244,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles and spires blended
with the largest, protected mixed grass prairie in the US. The Badlands loop is about 40 miles.
Sunday, September 16
Leave Wall, SD, go thru Badlands National Park if you haven’t yet done so, and return to Spearfish, SD.

Farewell Breakfast at Holiday Inn, Spearfish, SD
