As we were planning this Model A tour of Portugal and Spain, a Spanish historical vehicle club found us on the internet and contacted us. Chema Blasco from the club asked us to tweak our itinerary so we could visit them in Zaragoza, Spain. We were thrilled to accomplish this first joint meeting of the MODEL A TOURING CLUB and the ASSOCIATION ARAGONESA VEHICULOS HISTORICOS.
Our group drove from Pamplona and, following very clear driving directions provided by the Spanish club, we met at a large gas station near Ribaforada.
Our Spanish friends had organized two days full of activities, and our first activity of May 19th was a beautiful drive through the countryside to the Campo de Borja. It was so much fun parading through the small towns where the locals lined the streets and greeted us with smiles and thumbs up!
We had snacks and beverages (in the Model A way, which appears to be universal):
Next, we visited Bodega Bordeje in Ainzon. This was an ancient and traditional bodega, where the wines were originally made for family, but are now sold commercially.
Late in the afternoon, we arrived in Zaragoza.
Here we were met by a police escort, which brought us safely through the VERY busy streets of this VERY big city and led us to our hotel. We made arrangements to meet the Spanish cars the next morning. Wait until you see the full day celebration tomorrow!
