Model A’s Heading into Rioja

May 17, 2017May 17, 2017Pat Burbank Leave a comment

On Monday, we had another beautiful day to drive through the Spanish countryside, but first some of our group visited an underground bodega in Aranda de Duero. On the road, we found a pretty monastery not too far away. Here are more sights during the day’s journey. Once we reached Logrono, which is in the … Continue reading Model A’s Heading into Rioja

Castles and Model As

May 15, 2017Pat Burbank 1 Comment

This day’s Spanish adventure was a very pleasant drive through the countryside. Not too far from our starting point in Tordesillas, we found the Castle of Portillo. Climbed a lot of steps up the tower, but the view from the tower was fantastic. Later in the day, we could see the huge castle of Penefiel … Continue reading Castles and Model As

Spanish Wine, Cheese and Model As

On the road from Zamora to Tordesillas, Spain, we stopped for a winery tour near the town of Toro. Here are some photos. (I couldn’t resist a shot of the barrel as well as the box, which shows you the part of Spain we were visiting.) An interesting aspect of the winery was all the … Continue reading Spanish Wine, Cheese and Model As

More Model “A”ers in Zamora

May 14, 2017May 15, 2017Pat Burbank Leave a comment

On May 12th, we had a walking tour of historic Zamora, Spain, which has the most Romanesque churches in Europe. It was a good day for portraits: The city has encouraged artists to paint beautiful murals in order to discourage graffiti. It seems to work, and the artwork was very interesting! More views of the … Continue reading More Model “A”ers in Zamora

An Unscheduled Stop Leads to a Spanish Surprise

May 13, 2017May 15, 2017Pat Burbank 4 Comments

Last night we visited a vintage car museum in Salamanca, Spain: And this morning we found we were in the two local newspapers. Here's the city by day and by night: We had the morning free in Salamanca, so some of us took the tourist train. Others walked around the city. We had a relatively … Continue reading An Unscheduled Stop Leads to a Spanish Surprise

Spanish Culture Meets Henry Ford

May 11, 2017May 15, 2017Pat Burbank

May 10: Before we left the area, we visited a ranch outside of Ciudad Rodrigo, where we were offered a cowboy/horsemanship/matador exhibition. Here are the cows and bulls coming into the arena: The horses were beautiful, the riders very skilled, and the matador with the young bull interesting. Afterwards, we lined up the cars and … Continue reading Spanish Culture Meets Henry Ford

Our First Parador in Spain

May 11, 2017May 15, 2017Pat Burbank 1 Comment

After Lamego, Portugal, we crossed the border into Spain. Because the Pope was visiting Fatima, Portugal, we were prepared for more than normal EU border interrogation. However, probably because we were leaving Portugal rather than entering, no one paid any attention to us. On the way to Ciudad Rodrigo, Spain, we stopped and had a … Continue reading Our First Parador in Spain

Along the Douro River

May 11, 2017May 15, 2017Pat Burbank 1 Comment

In Porto, Portugal, several local Model A/vintage car enthusiasts greeted us. One of members had a broken motor mount and the locals found a place to weld a part for him on our first day there. Then, because one of our members was having possible electrical issues, they arranged to have us all drive to … Continue reading Along the Douro River

Testing the Port in Porto

May 11, 2017May 15, 2017Pat Burbank 2 Comments

Greetings! We have made it to Spain, but I’m going to catch up on scenes from Portugal. Last time we “spoke”, we were in Porto, Portugal. This is a beautiful old town, with very modern additions, so some of the photos may show the old and new together. We spent two nights at the Hotel … Continue reading Testing the Port in Porto

Fun and Games in Portugal

May 9, 2017May 15, 2017Pat Burbank 2 Comments

May 7 - 9:  Just a quick note to let you know we’re all fine… We’ve had a couple of long days, some mechanical issues, and weak internet. You know, this isn’t all fun and games: we have daily navigators meetings, and here’s a sample of images from one meeting: And, thanks to the Griesses, … Continue reading Fun and Games in Portugal

About the Model A Ford

The Ford Model A was in production from 1928 - 1931. It was the second huge success for the Ford Motor Company, the Ford Model T being its first.

The 1928 release of the Model A introduced all new models, colors and features as opposed to the black only Model T. These features included a three speed sliding gear transmission 40 HP engine, four wheel brake system and hydraulic shock absorbers. The original prices ran from around $500 to $1200 dollars. Sales were very strong but as with all companies, the Depression had a major impact. For the four years of production Ford produced over 4 million Model A's.

The Model A was replaced in 1932 with the Model B and Model 18 which had Ford's new V-8 engine.

Today it is estimated that there are over 250,000 Model A's still in use today.
